jungle of lips

the rain has been heavy lately,
drenching me with all the body parts
I've lost through the years,
some tart and seedy as pomegranates

I take off my shirt, wring it out,
tiptoe through whispers
drifting up, down around me,
poisoned dandelions
that can do nothing to me,
do everything to me

before me, behind me,
left, right, overhead, under my feet,
monkey faces tell me all

their long, snaking tongues sip at my air,
lick it out of my nose,
steal away the promise of dust,
my secrets the fruit so ripe in their trees
